In the ongoing effort to eliminate paper, you iPhone’s Passbook steps in to provide electronic versions of boarding passes, movie tickets, coupons, and store cards.
How to obtain passes with your iPhone
Before you can use Passbook, you have to install Passbook-enabled apps on your iPhone. Follow these steps to do that:
Tap Passbook on the Home screen.
Tap Apps for Passbook at the bottom of the screen.
A list of apps that support Passbook appears.
If you don’t see the Apps for Passbook button, tap Passbook at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the Free button next to the Passbook apps that interest you to install the app on your iPhone.
Tap Install.
Type in your Apple ID Password if requested.
The app is downloaded and the button now reads Open.
In addition to Passbook apps, there are two other ways to add passes:
With Wallet, you can keep your credit, debit, and prepaid cards, store cards, boarding passes, movie tickets, coupons, rewards cards, student ID cards, and more in one place. With Wallet, you can use passes on your iPhone to check in for flights, get and redeem rewards, get in to movies, or redeem coupons. Passes can include useful.
Tap Passbook and then tap the Scan Code button. The camera opens. Point it at the bar code on a product or a QR code in an ad to scan it; the pass or discount coupon is then added to passbook.
You may receive e-mail with a link or find URLs on websites that download coupons (Coupons.com has many) or special offers to Passbook. Tap these links and the associated barcode or QR code is downloaded to Passbook.
How to get on board with Passbook on your iPhone
The fun and practical side of Passbook is using the passes. When you’re ready to use one of the Passbook-enabled apps, tap the app on the Home screen and do one of the following:
Tap the Add to Passbook button and then tap the Add button on the coupon or follow the onscreen instructions to insert your username or number and password.
For boarding passes, proceed with online check-in and then tap Download Boarding Pass to Passbook option.
After the passes are in Passbook, you need only tap the appropriate one and scan it at the check-in counter or cash register.
This means all you need is your passport and iPhone at the airport and when you reach the cash register at your favorite store, instead of shuffling a deck of store cards, just tap Passbook and then tap the appropriate card. In no time, you’re on your way down the tarmac, points are added to your account, or discounts are applied to your purchase.
How to manage passes with your iPhone
Most of the passes in Passbook have options for automatic updates as well as some information about how the pass works. Tap the Information button in the lower right corner of the pass to see the “back side” of the pass.
Go to Settings→Notification Center→Passbook to choose to see Passbook on the lock screen and the Notification Center. Then location and time based passes, such as boarding passes or theater tickets appear on the lock screen when you get to the airport or theater (as long as Location Services is on and you have a data connection).

You can also eliminate a pass by tapping the Delete button in the upper left corner of the pass.
Tap the Share button to send the pass to someone via AirDrop, Mail, or Messages.
I have been trying to add some boarding passes to wallet. I have downloaded the airline app and logged in. I have tried to 'scan the code' as suggested in wallet, but the only code is a QR code and nothing happens when I try to scan. This should be that difficult but I cannot figure it out. Is there an easy way to get this done? Please explain to me how to do it. Thanks.

If your airline is Delta
Check into your flight with this page of Delta's website on your iPhone/iPod Touch (have your flight's confirmation number ready). When you complete your checkin, you will be given an option to add the pass to your Passbook (aka Wallet app). Tap into that, then press the Add button to add the pass to your wallet. Then you can skip the check-in kiosk at the airport if you have your phone and the pass handy.
Any other airline
Download the airline's app (yep, only Delta lets you use the mobile site to add a boarding pass to Wallet) and open it up. Here are some apps from the major carriers (though don't fret if your airline is not on this list, it's rather incomplete; just search for it in the app store):
Proceed into the app (have your confirmation number or loyalty account info ready) and choose the Check in option (location of this button varies between apps). Follow the instructions to check in, and at the end, you'll see a button to Add to Passbook or Add to Apple Wallet. Press that, then press the Add button in the Navbar and you'll be set.

I have Delta, and had checked in on a computer. I found that when I logged into the Delta app on my iphone, I was able to navigate to my trip and add the boarding pass to my wallet there. Just one other option. Delta used to let me add the boarding pass directly to my wallet when I pulled up the boarding pass notification. Kind of annoying to have that functionality taken away...
